Remote observing with WFCCD Glenn Eychaner, Jan 2012 Passwords that I have are available at http://arch1.lco.cl:8080/, in accordance with JIRA MOP-191 (as soon as I update the archive). The CSP team obviously also knows the passwords to the accounts. Passwords should in general not be Emailed unless absolutely necessary. Note that these instructions are practically identical except for the machine names. Please let the group know of any errors I have made in these instructions. Remote observing with WFCCD 1) Log into the ``wfccd'' account on Carnoustie. 2) Instrument control: On Carnoustie, open a Terminal window and type ``open vnc://clarity.lco.cl'' (the username is ``obsremote''). The resulting VNC window will contain all the instrument controls on the Mac Mini system. 3) Data analysis: In the same Terminal window on Carnoustie as step 2, type ``ssh -Y obsX@clarity'', where ``obsX'' is the user name of the current observer (which can be seen in the upper right corner of the VNC window). In this window: a) Type ``killall ds9'' to kill any SAOImage DS9 processes running on Clarity b) Type ``ds9 &'' to start SAOImage DS9 on Clarity, with the window displayed on Carnoustie. c) Type ``xgterm &'' to start an X terminal on Clarity displayed on Carnoustie, and in the resulting window, type ``cd iraf; cl'' to start IRAF. 4) Skype: On Carnoustie, open Skype using your own Skype ID, and call the Skype user ``RetroCam duPont''. The operator should have opened Skype on Caballo and logged in as this user.
